Fossil acquired a Swiss company by the name of Zodiac in 2001 to give them a higher end brand. Fossil watches were known for their mid-1950s era designs and low entry price. They later branched into the sale of leather goods and other accessories in the 1990s. The purchase of Zodiac started a complete change in the companies watch line aiming to reflect a retro modern 1970s style in a higher end watch. In 2004 the purchase of Michele watch enabled the company to offer a high end Swiss watch with a designer touch. In 2006 Fossil released a caller ID watch and teamed up with the NFL to make the official watch collection for each team.
